Offshore wind continues to make the headlines with 2016 ending with extremely keenly priced winning tenders. These recent tender results indicate that the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) of offshore wind is reducing more rapidly than previously anticipated, as illustrated by Vattenfall’s record-breaking bid of €49.9/MWh for Kriegers Flak (Nov 2016) and the Shell consortium’s winning bid of €54.5 /MWh for Borssele III & IV (Dec 2016) (both ex-transmission costs of around €15/MWh).

In the Innovative Financing of Offshore Wind 2016 report, FTI Intelligence examines the economics and current financing initiatives that are enabling the LCOE for offshore wind to reduce, as well as forecasts installations, costs and the LCOE out to 2025.
