At this time, FTI Intelligence is a little less optimistic than it was in Q1 2016. Global total addition between 2016 and 2025 is now estimated at 620 GW, a 1.1% decrease over Q1 projections. However, the picture is different when the next ten-year forecast is broken out into the short term (2016-2020) and the medium term (2021-2025). Estimated new wind power installations have increased over the short term to 306 GW, a 3.0% increase compared with Q1 projections, but over the medium term, the forecast has been downgraded by 4.8% to 315 GW, primarily due to the uncertainty in the US, Brazil and a few key European markets such as the UK and Poland.
